First Catholic School of
Sisters of Notre Dame de Namir
From Belguim 1844
Abandoned in 1852 due
to the gold rush in
1849." (front of image)

"This is the original building. Mrs. Peter
Smith, who attended school in it, said that a
porch ran around the front and side of both the
first and second stories. The statue of the
B.V. shows above the center front. Is this not
the statue given by the Sisters in Lima, Peru to
your Sisters? According to our chronicles, there
was another wing simliar to the one on the right ,
but it was demolished somewhere between 1853 and
1861.
Local accounts place the date of its erection
somewhere in the year 1843." ( associated paper clipping)
