When the railroad was constructed in 1870 schedules were arranged for train departures from Portalnd so taht the train would stop at this Aurora hotel for lunch. Pre-railroad days the stages stopped at this famous Hotel for lunch [crossed out] meals or maybe an overnight stay. Even after the passing of the faun [crossed out] hotel's founder Jacob Giesy this hotel continued its original popularity as a fine eatin place. Mrs. Giesy was a memeber of the Aurora colony. This author's relatives, jack and Eliza Kerr, operated the hotel during the years about 1910 - 1920. I once spent a weekend at the hotel and never having stayed at a hotel beofre it was indeed a thrill I shall long remember For the dinner hour on Sunday evening the people living in the area came [end of first page] for the [crossed out] a delightful dinner and evening. It was awe-inspiring to see all those men and women then arrive in their beautiful attire. This was a weekly affair where the ladies came with the [crossed out] beautiful hairdo's, dresses and fur stoles. It was like viewing one [added in] big beautiful party. The hotel was torn down to make way for the relocation of the highway which replaced the old stage road.
