He was born in Butteville July 8, 1889, served in the 162nd Infantry in WWI and was a char- [first clipping] ter member of the Woodburn post Ameri- can Legion. Surviving are his widow, Laurena Whitney, Woodburn; sons, Gil- bert C. Whitney, US army; Robert James Whitney, US navy; daughter, Ellen Mor- tensen, Aurora; four grandchildren; brother, E.W. Whitney, Portland, four sisters, Pearl Odekirk, Canby; Emma Whitney, Portland; Naomi Alleman, Woodburn and Rheuemah Boyles, Port- land. Funeral services will be held from the Ringo chapel Wednesday at 2:30 o'clock with burial in Belle Passi ceme- tery. Members of the Legion post wil be pallbearers.
