stet. q.v. Repritns Bird, James 1773-1856 "James Bird, born in Aston, Middlesex, 1773, entered the HBC service in 1888. He became a C.F. in 1819 and retired in 1824 to the Red R. settlement where he held various app- ointments. His first wife, Elizabeth, an Indian, died in 1834 and in 1835 he married Mrs. Mary Lowman, a widow, who was a teacher at the R.R. Academy. According to Letitia Hargraves, Mrs. Bird became "the leader of fashion at R.R. " James Bird died in 1856."
