Card 1 side 1: Bellique, Cyforian (Cyprien) 1848-1914 Cyprien was the youngest son of Pierre Bellique, Sr., an infant in arms when his father died returning from the gold fields. He married Julienne Bergevin in 1873, and was the father of ten children. His wife was tragically burned to death in a kitchen fire in 1900, while her small children tried vainly to tear away her burning clothing. Louis Pichet III, apparently.) b. 1855 Card 4: Bellique, Joseph 1843-1847 Joseph died in 1847 he is the only child not mentioned in his father's will, made in preparation for his tragic trip to the gold fields. Bk. 1 p. 60 Card 5 side 1: Bellique, Pierre, jr. 1836-1913 bap. Jan. 6, 1839 (3 yrs) Vanc. p. 24 Young Pierre, a boy of thirteen, accompanied his father, Pierre, Sr., to the gold fields in 1849. It was his hard lot to return with the word that his father had been buried at sea off the mouth of the Columbia and that their hard-won gold had been lost overboard. Pierre married Ann Gagnon and moved to Douglas County, but was pursued by hard Card 5 side 2: luck, for his wife and two of his four children died. July 1- 1873 Roseb. p 35 Pierre attended St. Joseph's College before going to Cal. - (Benski) Card 6 side 1: Bellique, Pierre (Sr.) 1793-1849 (1793 Canada, 1849, at sea) Bellique joined the N.W. Fur Co in New Caledonia in 1818. Settled claim on old Henry House farm about 1830 and took up residence in old house. Seven children were born to him m. Jan. 21- 1839 264) and Genevieve St. Martin; many descend- ants remain today. Bellique and his eldest son Pierre, Jr., went to the California gold field, said to be successful, but he died at sea returning and was Card 6 side 2: buried off the mouth of the Columbia River. Described by contemporary as "mild and honest." One of the leaders in petitioning for priests to be sent to the settlement on French Prairie. His will was the first to be probated in Marion County records, Book 1, page 1. Of his daughters, Sophie B. Jan 6- 1839 - Vanc. p. 51 married Narcisse Cornoyer, Genevieve married Felix Gregoire, and Esther married Joseph Hilband (Hubbard). His widow Genevieve married Casimere Gardipe. II - 156 Nov. 1968 JOHN ALBERT BELLEQUE John Albert Belleque, 74, of 3905 SE 91st Ave., a resident of Portland for the past 54 years, died Tuesday in a Port- land hospital. Born in St. Louis, Ore., Mr. Belleque was a descendant of Pierre Belleque, early settler who came to Oregon from Canada in 1836. He was a for- mer custodian of Pacific Den- tal College, a position from which he retired 15 years ago because of his health. He is survived by his wife, Frances P.; two sons, Ar- thur A. and Jim; and one daughter, Mrs. Hazel Wells, all of Portland. There are also nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Agatha Catholic Church. Recitation of the Rosary will be at Gables Funeral Home at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be at the Willamette National Cemetery. Card 9 side 1: (Francois?) Bellique, Jean Baptiste 1845-1925 Jean Baptiste came from a musical family; he himself became a violin teacher on the Grand Ronde Reserve.
